Housing Profiles

ONU is a residential university that aims to foster a dynamic living-learning environment. Living on campus is a way of life at ONU, and we are committed to providing a quality housing experience. Each level of ONU's housing promotes personal growth and independence, creating life skills necessary for young adults' lives beyond ONU.

  • The University has found that students who live on campus tend to be more successful academically, more involved in ONU’s culture, and develop more friendships than students who live off campus. Therefore, incoming freshmen students are highly encouraged to live on campus.
  • There are many academic and social advantages to living on a college campus.
  • A campus environment can nurture students' evolving worldviews and their extracurricular interests. Living on campus can give you more opportunities to socialize with your peers.
  • You'll also have greater access to various campus activities and clubs, enhancing your sense of community. Students who live on campus often enjoy a greater understanding of the community.
  • Living close to school facilities can make it easier to connect with classmates through campus activities and events. Diverse campus groups—intramural athletics, career or major associations, Greek life, and community service organizations—allow students to build more intimate networks within the larger school community.
  • Students living on campus may earn better grades than those who commute to class because they have greater access to courses, faculty, and study groups.
  • Most students who live on campus do so in their first year of undergrad. This is an ideal time to live on campus, as new students are more open to making social connections, trying new activities, and attending school events.

Ohio Northern University offers various housing options.

FIRST-YEAR-FRESHMAN STUDENT HOUSING

Students are assigned to traditional first-year residence halls. First-year students can match up with another first-year same-gender roommate when they complete the online housing application.

UPPERCLASSMAN/RETURNING STUDENT HOUSING

Returning students will go through a housing lottery process during the spring semester and will self-select their on-campus housing for the next academic year. The options available on campus are suite-style rooms or apartments.

MEAL PLAN AND HOUSING

All students in the residence halls and suites, which are non-apartment-style rooms, must select a meal plan. Apartment assignments include 400 dining dollars, but no additional meal plan is required.
